North Davie Middle School has been selected to participate in an exciting and transformative opportunity that will further strengthen its commitment to student success. The school has officially joined the Golden LEAF Schools Initiative as part of the Personalized, Competency-Based Education (PCBE) Cohort—an honor that highlights the dedication and forward-thinking work happening within the school community.

Out of schools across North Carolina, North Davie was chosen for its readiness to take the next step in evolving how it supports teaching and learning. This selection reflects the consistent effort, passion, and commitment demonstrated by both staff and students each day.

So what does this mean for North Davie? Simply put—it means opportunity.

Through the Golden LEAF Schools Initiative, North Davie will receive ongoing support, coaching, and valuable resources aimed at strengthening personalized, competency-based education. This approach focuses on ensuring that every student not only learns content but truly masters it, progressing at a pace that meets their individual needs while preparing them for future success both inside and outside the classroom.

For parents, this means your child will experience learning that is more tailored to their individual strengths and needs. Students may have more flexibility in how they learn, additional opportunities to revisit and improve their work, and clearer expectations for what mastery looks like in each subject. Teachers will continue to provide strong instruction while also using new strategies to ensure that every student fully understands key concepts before moving forward.

You may also notice increased communication about your child’s progress. Instead of focusing only on grades, we will continue working toward providing meaningful feedback that shows what your child knows, what they are still working on, and how they can improve. Our goal is to make learning more transparent so you can better support your child at home.

The initiative also represents a meaningful investment in our educators. Staff will receive high-quality professional development designed to deepen their instructional practices and expand their impact in the classroom. In addition, North Davie will receive approximately $40,000 annually to support professional development, travel for learning opportunities, and substitute coverage. These resources allow teachers and staff to collaborate, grow professionally, and bring innovative practices back to their classrooms—directly benefiting students.

At its core, this work is about students. We want EACH student to feel supported, challenged, and successful every day. This partnership will help us continue building a learning environment where all students can achieve at high levels and are prepared for the future.
