There is a lot to celebrate at North Davie Middle School!

The 2025–26 School Performance Grade results are in, and North Davie earned a B for the second consecutive year, while reaching our highest School Performance Score in the past five years. Our overall score increased from 71 last year to 73 this year, continuing an upward trend that has moved North Davie from a score of 68 in 2023–24 to 73 today.

While we are proud of the letter grade, I am even more proud of what is behind it.

North Davie earned an Achievement Score of 69.8, our highest in the five years reported. Our students also exceeded expected growth with a Growth Score of 87.8, another five-year high.

There are several individual areas worth celebrating. Reading achievement increased for the second year in a row, reaching its highest point in five years. Our science achievement jumped to 84.6, an increase of more than 18 points from last year. Math achievement remained strong at 74.5, following several years of significant improvement.

Those are numbers worth celebrating, but they are only part of the North Davie story.

We believe middle school should give students many different opportunities to discover what they are good at and then challenge them to get better. We want high standards in the classroom, on the stage, on the athletic field, and in the opportunities that prepare students for their future.

Our students take the stage in band, chorus, theater, and other performances where they learn that being part of something great takes preparation and practice. Our student-athletes are expected to compete, represent North Davie well, and understand that how they carry themselves matters just as much as the final score. Through our CTE and business classes, students are developing skills they will use well beyond middle school. Opportunities such as the Amazing Shake push students to communicate with adults, think on their feet, make a strong first impression, and build confidence.

Those experiences matter.

So does the culture students experience every day. Our House System has helped create a stronger sense of belonging while giving students opportunities to lead, serve others, compete, and have fun together. We have worked hard to create a school where students want to be, where relationships matter, and where being part of North Davie means something.

We can have a positive school culture and still expect a lot from our students. In fact, I believe the two go together. Students are more willing to challenge themselves when they know the adults around them believe in them and are invested in their success.

That belief is also why the word EACH in our vision-North LEADS: Learners Each Achieving Dynamic Success-continues to be so important to us.

Behind every percentage is a student. Behind every student's growth is a teacher who planned a lesson, looked at student work, changed an approach, provided intervention, encouraged a student, or simply refused to give up on a child. Our teachers work together to respond to individual needs, and continue looking for ways to improve instruction.

We also know there is more work ahead. Some areas did not grow at the rate we wanted this year, and we will study those results just as closely as we celebrate our successes. We have never wanted North Davie to be a school that is satisfied because we reached a certain letter grade. We want to keep getting better.

I am incredibly proud of our students and staff and thankful for the families, businesses, organizations, and community members who support our school.

When we talk about success at North Davie, a test score will always be part of the conversation, but it will never be the whole conversation.

Success is a student growing academically. It is a musician performing on stage after weeks of practice. It is an athlete representing our school with pride. It is a student confidently shaking the hand of a community leader. It is a House serving others. It is a teacher finding another way to reach a student. It is a student discovering a talent they did not know they had.

A school with high expectations. A school where students belong. A school where EACH student has the opportunity to succeed.
